The largest town in North Devon, Barnstaple sits on the River Taw, north of wild Dartmoor and to the west of beautiful Exmoor. This region of North Devon has been isolated and protected from the rapid development of the southern resorts by its remoteness. The area around this part of North Devon has some spectacular contrasts. The wild moors of Dartmoor are not far away, and some lovely beaches around Saunton and Woolacombe.
